Sony launches the Tablet S in India at Rs 29,990

About month-and-a-half after it was first unveiled Sony launched its tablet device, the Sony Tablet S, in the Indian market. The Tablet S is the one of the first two tablet devices from the Japanese electronics giant.
Sony has added some additional features to its tablet devices in an effort to set them apart from the herd of iPad competitors. The Tablet S, which is about the size of an iPad, can double as a universal remote control. The tablet is wedge-shaped, with one side thicker than the other. The shape mimics that of a magazine that's been folded over.
The tablet ties into other Sony properties. For instance, the Tablet S is able to run games created for the original PlayStation and the PlayStation Portable and includes apps that connect to Sony's Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited content stores, formerly known as Qriocity.
The Android 3.2 powered device has a 9.4-inch (WXGA 1280x800) screen, 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The Tablet S has a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 0.3 megapixel front camera. Sony India has not listed the 32GB version on its website. The Sony Tablet S is priced at Rs 29,990.
Sony is already late to the tablet game with its first tablet that launched more than a year and a half after Apple launched the iPad and almost a year since Samsung came out with the GalaxyTab.
Tech reviewers credited Sony for coming up with a unique curvy design for the S tablet, which resembles a folded-back magazine and makes it easier to hold with one hand, but the quality of the hardware was questioned.
Once a symbol of Japan's high-tech might, Sony is struggling under the weight of its money-losing TV division and badly needs the boost of a hit product.
